Founder's Story

There was always a pot of chai within reach growing up. Not for guests, exactly — just for whoever happened to be around. The doorbell would ring, and it didn't matter if it was an aunt visiting from out of town or someone stopping by to fix the dishwasher. Someone would already be reaching for the stove.

That's the house Jastina grew up in — Indian, in the US, and never quite willing to let the distance shrink what hosting meant. Big dinners, small visits, it didn't matter. You sat someone down. You gave them something warm. That was the whole rule.

By The Earth Living is woman-owned and woman-founded, and it comes from that same instinct, just grown up. Now a mother, she finds herself doing the same thing her own parents did without thinking twice about it — pulling out a cup for someone who only meant to stay five minutes. And she wants her kids to inherit that the way she did: not as a lesson, but as something that just happens, table after table, cup after cup.

Every piece By The Earth Living makes is meant to hold up to that — the big dinner and the quick chai, treated exactly the same. That's the tradition. That's what's being passed down.
